Some wound might need superficial, and some might need deep scraping of the infected tissue. Tetanus toxoid injections will be given as appropriate per wound guidelines. How does your team manage extensive/complex wounds?
The complex wounds that need extensive surgical debridement would be referred to podiatrist or surgeon. Usually, such extensive surgeries are done at hospitals and outpatient surgical centers. Patients with Life threatening infection (such as Necrotizing fasciitis) and wounds with severe systemic symptoms will be referred to nearby hospital. We will assess wounds for blood supply compromise by bedside test if possible and provide appropriate referral to vascular surgeon while managing the wounds.
